Sunderland Soccer Yobs

Following police action in Sunderland and publication of match photographs of soccer hooligans, 4 men were prosecuted and banned from matches in the UK for 1 year.

Photos were taken outside the away-end of Sunderland’s Stadium of Light following a home match against Middlesborough in March and circulated widely in the region’s media. Sunderland Echo reported that police were inundated with calls identifying one of the men giving a nazi salute.
Organised hooliganism is known to have connections with far right Nazi groups who aim to recruit from amongst racist, sexist and homophobic football supporters. Local “firms” are Seaburn Casuals from Sunderland and the Gremlins from Newcastle.
