Failing Sunderland BNP come last again

The day before nominations opened for the May 2006 local elections, Sunderland BNP came last in the Millfield by-election.

On the 23rd March, in a convincing defeat, the fascist party failed to win even a 100 votes. This poor performance follows the devastating pattern they have followed in other recent North East elections.

Just like the poor performance in Sunderland Barnes ward last November, the BNP’s regional organiser Kevin Scott avoided showing his face at the count. This is not surprising given that Scott is basking in his position as Civil Liberty’s top man. Such weighty responsibilities will keep him from attending embarrassing election counts.

BNP organisers that did make the effort to attend the count included a very glum looking Ian Leadbitter. Looking preoccupied, he was no doubt deliberating on how on earth he can convince enough people to stand as candidates for a third full slate in the up and coming local elections. The chances of anyone wanting to be associated with the failing Sunderland BNP look slim. Or maybe he was just considering who will become the next Sunderland organiser!
