Racial inequality remains a huge problem in Newcastle with fresh figures painting a bleak picture for ethnic minority groups in the North East.
Our findings – described as “shocking” by the head of Britain’s equalities watchdog – are based on analysis of dozens of sets of official Government data covering all aspects of life, from cradle to grave.

Twafa Comment: This report makes interesting and somewhat disturbing reading. Here at Twafa we would echo what Councillor McCarty says, that nobody should have to endure discrimination because of their background. Although progress has been made, clearly more work needs to be done to eradicate institutionalised racism in Newcastle and England as a whole. We hope that this work will be done, so that all the citizens of the city and country can have the best opportunities available to them to make the most of their lives.
