Working with Local People

Showing a figure bining a nazi swasticaFascists work and campaign in the same communities where they themselves live. They attempt to offer local leadership and organisation. Where these activities are taking place, we encourage and support local people themselves to offer leadership and promote anti-fascist activities. Local campaigns area stronger and more accountable because of this approach.

There are other groups that also provide leadership on these issues. TWAFA works alongside trade unions, women’s groups, disability groups, lesbian and gay groups, community organisation, unemployed and tenants groups.

Challenging Fascist's Right to Organise

TWAFA aims to deny fascists the space to organise Bin Nazismand otherwise the freedom to intimidate people with messages of hate and violence. We believe that freedom of speech is a human right but denying basic human rights to others takes that right away. Fascists must not be given a platform, so we campaign to stop their meetings, paper-sales, marches and other activities.

Monitoring

Accurate and up to date information is invaluable in the fight against fascism. TWAFA carries out detailed monitoring work on fascism within the region. Some information is provided by “moles” within fascist groups – much is provided by our network of local supporters. But most is obtained through laborious and time consuming work - intelligence gathering is a specialised skill that only TWAFA has developed regionally.

National and International Work

TWAFA has links nationally with a large number of community based anti-racist and anti-fascist organisations and a close relationship with the anti-fascist magazine Searchlight.

European FascismImage with a crudely crossed-out swastica proclaiming A continuing threat is a major revival of fascism in other European countries. British fascists are often in direct contact with Nazi parties elsewhere, sharing resources and creating alliances. We believe that TWAFA must support other European anti-fascist campaigns and publicise international groups that have similar aims to our own.
