It can be as difficult to distance yourself from an ideaology, as from a Mussolini tattoo.

Paolo Di Canio must clarify his current political beliefs and distance himself from fascism, writes The northern Echo.

Many leading figures have spoken out this week to express disbelief  at the appointment of a Paolo Di Canio . Among them, Football Against Racism in Europe director Piara Powar.

He is acutely aware that concerned this move by Sunderland AFC could have dangerous repercussions if his political beliefs are not immediately and publicly challenged. Piara Powar has made his views clear:

“It would be hypocritical of us (at FARE) not to point out his self-proclaimed fascist past when we are outraged by Lazio fans when they make the Roman salute, which we all know has been made famous by Hitler and the far right. ”When they make that gesture and monkey noises to black players, it is hypocritical to pick out the views of fans and not a manager at a top-level side. Di Canio has made that salute himself as a player.

“I think from our perspective we would say we are seeing the rise of the far right and the intolerance and hatred that goes with that across Europe. Being a fascist is not a soft political label.

“In many way it’s a political label that comes across with all sorts of dangerous ideas and ideals and that is the concern for us.”

“Fascism is an ideology which at heart is about intolerance and a way of government that has no place in the 21st century.

“There is no question to have a manager who calls himself a fascist at at Premier League club will encourage those movements.

“I think there is no place in a sport which seeks to draw out positive impact on social relations and community to have someone who says ‘I am a fascist and I admire Mussolini’.”

When asked if Di Canio could be the right choice for Sunderland to help ensure their top-flight survival, Powar said: “There are all these good footballing reasons to employ him, but are footballing reasons enough when someone comes with the baggage he comes with?”
Piara Power is absolutely correct to point out that Di Canio should make it clear that he distances himself from the fascist views he has advocated in the past. If he is unable to do this, then the appointment of Di Canio must not be used by either himself or fascists on Wearside, many of whom certainly are racists, to promote an ideology which was so clearly defeated and made redundant at the end of the Second World War in 1945. It is to be hoped that Sunderland A. F.C. will ensure that this does not happen.

Racist agenda explained by Newcastle fascist.

The far right have continued to attempt to stir up trouble in Millfield this past weekend, resulting in further publicity of the Northern Patriotic Front. (formerly  the neo nazi North East National Front).

As predicted, there is no longer any discussion of the local issues surrounding the building of the mosque and this issue has been well and truly exploited by the fascists for their own fundamentally racist agenda.

Final confirmation of their deep seated racist views is the stream of offensive racist language from their organiser (an ex convict who has served time for burglary and violent racial attacks)in which he states that the problem is not the Mosque, its a wider problem, “the blacks , the Asians and the asylum seekers”.

Thankfully numbers of fascists and hard core racists turning out at Millfield are slowly dwindling, and this time their drunken and aggressive behavior resulted in 2 arrests this time, one for breach of the peace and one for racial chanting.

Nazi Northern (National)/Patriotic [Front] continue plans to stir up tension in Sunderland

North East fascists intend to gather again to stir up local tensions as the Neo-Nazi Northern Patriotic Front (former National Front members) plan to target Millfield again.

Led by a man with a conviction for racial assault under his belt, and who loves nazi music so much he had the bands name tattooed on his forehead, its unlikely to be peaceful.

New dangers: TB outbreak requires cull as BNP mark II is headed up by North East fascists.

A new far right political party has been launch this week assisted by North East fascists. Called True Brits (TB), it is expected to be populated by current and former members of the British National Party (BNP). It has been created in the wake of the demise of the BNP and the split in organisational leadership between Andrew Brons and Nick Griffin.

We need to take a closer look at who the toxic team are who are leading this, among them, holocaust deniers, Hitler worshipers BNP, NF racial hate mongerers, and individuals with links to hardcore nazi organisations.More about those behind the party is here.

Among the management of this new party, is Ken Booth (deputy chairman) and Kevin Scott (Secretary of the Steering Group) of Newcastle. Booth earned his fascist stripes during his many years as North East organiser for the National Front and later the BNP. He was exposed for describing Auschwitz as being comparable to “Disney Land, refusing to believe the “official figures of those who died in the Holocaust and did not recognise the “authenticity of the buildings at Auschwitz.

Scotts credentials are no better, with a conviction for assault, and using threatening words and behaviour towards a group of Asians, he was the North East BNP organiser for many years.

It’s a fair prediction to make that this party will have as many racist and fascist views as the BNP, if not worse, and will be similar in all but name.

The creation of this party is a clear reminder of why continued vigilance is required against fascism in all its forms, and why we need to expose and prevent far right activity whether it involves views expressed on line, actions in everyday life, or more worryingly, when it attempts to take power.

Extreme right target mosque plans and upset Sunderland locals.

The locals of Millfield are sadly seeing the effect of how the far right operate when they swoop into communities in order to raise their own profile and to progress their own agenda.Plans for a mosque in Millfield have been approved by Sunderland City Council but resident opposition groups are objecting to the plans. The situation has resulted in protests by the extreme far right groups coming in to the area from elswhere and claiming that they represent the locals. This in turn has been met with protests by local anti-fascists making it known that the far right are not welcome in any area.
Local residents have now said they want any protests to be peaceful, and resent the manipulation of this local issue by the far right, especially following the events on Oct 6th 2012 at Millfield which resulted in 13 arrests.

Yet the far right have pledged to continue to demonstrate in Millfield once a month, despite bringing fear to communities through the sudden arrival on their doorsteps of a bunch of disorderly and drunk yobs.

The far right claim that residents wishes are being ignored. However this is exactly what the far right are doing by bringing fear to the streets of Millfield.

Sky News found that many local residents who were opposed to the mosque, were also opposed to protests by far-right groups. This is good to hear, for very good reason.

Let us take a moment to see what kind of characters are involved. The far right protesters are a mix of several groups, including the EDL, the National Front, the Scottish Defence League (not many members in Millfield), the North East Infidels (an EDL splinter group) and finally the “Northern Patriotic Front”.

The BBC quote Simon Biggs, of the Northern Patriotic Front. Biggs has been active in the far right for many years. A former cockney, who at the last protest, swooped into Sunderland along with groups from Bradford and Edinburgh to hijack this local issue for their own racist agenda.

Biggs activities go deeper than racism, as he has spent many years organising the Newcastle branch of the Neo-Nazi National Front and has a conviction for racial assault under his belt so peaceful protest is unlikely to be his forte, and the groups are unlikely to be representing the needs of locals.

The last protest in Millfield ended in terror for local residents, when this band of flying thickets took to the streets. It is at least heartening to see that their tactics of hijacking local issues for their own racist cause has been exposed.
