As part of the campaign to elect a far-right MEP from the North East of England, the National Front (NF) organised a march of supporters that took place in Newcastle City Centre on Saturday 17th April 2004.

NE Euro candidate Alan Patterson and BNP Leader Nick Griffin (Euro candidate in the North West) were forced ‘to go underground’, by local protesters, and abandon the launch of their NE Euro campaign.

The Evening Chronicle reported that Scott Morrison was the BNP’s candidate for the Chester-le-Street bye election held on October 2nd 2003. But photographed and interviewed by the Chronicle is Kevin Scott - the BNP’s regional organiser.

Newcastle NF chief, Kenneth Thomas Booth, failed to enter his party for the Walker (East Newcastle) bye-election on September 4th.

The BNP stood 53 candidates (none were elected) in the following areas: Darlington, Derwentside, Easington, Gateshead, Newcastle upon Tyne, Sedgefield, South Tyneside, Stockton, Sunderland and Wear Valley.

Though the British National Party was optimistic about likely gains in North East local elections, they failed to win seats in any of the 9 areas in which they stood candidates.
